Meet Anna: The Story Behind Know Your Skin

Meet Anna: The Story Behind Know Your Skin

There is a moment in most people's lives that changes the direction of everything that follows. For me, that moment was becoming seriously ill, and very nearly losing my life.

I do not share that lightly, and for a long time I did not share it at all. But it is the truest answer to the question I get asked often: how did you end up here, doing this work, in this way?

The honest answer is that I did not arrive at skin and beauty through a love of products or a fascination with facials, although I have come to love both. I arrived here because I wanted to help other women who had struggled the way I had, because somewhere in all of it I found a genuine love of healthy skincare, and because I had come to understand just how important the gut-skin connection really is. This became part of how I found my way back.

Finding My Way Back

When you have been seriously unwell, you stop taking your body for granted. You start asking different questions. While I was recovering, I threw myself into researching the gut-skin connection, and into eating for health rather than just eating. I became mindful, in a way I had never been before, about what I put on my skin too, not just what I put in my body. I wanted to understand how to keep inflammation low and toxins out, from both directions. I learned about the role of inflammation in the body, about how hormones ripple outward into every part of us, and about how the skin is often one of the first places that tells the truth about what is really going on inside.

That understanding became my purpose. Beauty, to me, stopped being about what you put on your face. It became about everything happening underneath, and learning to support that properly.

I am now some years into remission from Crohn's disease. I do not live with the daily symptoms anymore, but I carry everything that experience taught me into every single treatment I do. I know what it feels like to be disconnected from your own body. I know what it takes to slowly find your way back to feeling well, and like yourself again. That knowledge shapes how I listen to every client who lies on my bed.

A New Chapter, On Top of an Old One

These days, I am also navigating a different kind of change. I am in my fifties, moving through perimenopause, and noticing all the ways my own skin and body are shifting again. It is a strange thing to be the therapist and the client at the same time, but it has only deepened how I work. I am not guessing at what my clients are going through. I am living a version of it myself.

What I have come to believe, through all of this, is that skin health and life changes are never separate stories. Whether it is hormones, stress, illness, grief, or simply reaching a stage of life where you finally have a little more time and space for yourself, all of it shows up in the skin eventually. My work is about learning to read that, and helping each woman understand what her own skin is trying to tell her.

Introducing Know Your Skin

This is exactly why I created a new treatment called Know Your Skin.

It is sixty minutes, and unlike a typical facial, most of that time is spent talking rather than treating. We talk about your skin, yes, but also your gut health, your hormones, your sleep, your stress, and what has or hasn't worked for you in the past. By the end, you will have a clear, personal understanding of what your skin actually needs, along with my own recommendations for how to move forward in a way that makes sense for your life specifically.

Anna's Hero Products

When clients ask what I actually reach for, the honest answer is that it depends entirely on what their skin needs that day, not on what is trending. But there are three products I come back to again and again, for very different reasons.

The first is the Juvenate Relief Crème. This is the one I recommend most often to women going through hormonal changes, because it is genuinely gentle while still doing real work. It is built with calendula, allantoin, aloe vera, and alpha bisabolol, all working to calm redness and support the skin's natural barrier.

I want to explain why that barrier focus matters so much, because it is the part most people skip past. Your skin barrier is your defence mechanism. It is what keeps moisture in and irritants out, and it is the first thing to break down when hormones shift, stress builds, or gut health is out of balance. Once that barrier is compromised, nothing else really works. You can use the best serums and the most advanced actives in the world, but if the barrier underneath is damaged, the skin cannot absorb or respond to any of it properly. Repairing the barrier always has to come first. That is exactly what the Relief Crème is designed to do, and it is why I reach for it so often before introducing anything more active.

The second is the Juvenate ReAlign Advanced, and this one is a different kind of hero. Where the Relief Crème calms and repairs, ReAlign goes to work on the things that bother women most as they get older: uneven tone, pigmentation, texture, and the visible signs of ageing. It uses a meaningful concentration of Pro-Retinoid, Gallic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid, and Alpha Arbutin to genuinely shift how skin looks over time. It is a more advanced product, so I only introduce it once the skin has been properly prepared with a corrective moisturiser for at least four weeks, and it isn't suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding. But for the right client at the right time, it is one of the most effective things in my kit.

There is also one more product I consider an absolute must for women in this stage of life, and it is not something you apply, it is something you take. The Beauty Chef Glow Ageless is a gut health supplement specifically formulated for women aged 50 and over, and it speaks directly to everything I believe about inside-out beauty. It combines prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics with nutrients the body needs more support with as we age, including iodine, magnesium, and vitamins C and D. You cannot out-cream a gut that is out of balance. This is the piece that works from the inside, supporting the same skin health we are trying to protect from the outside with the right topical care.

Between the three, you can see the whole philosophy of how I work. Repair the barrier first, because nothing else matters until that defence is intact. Correct what is ready to be corrected once the skin can handle it. And support the gut, because that is where so much of this actually begins.

Why Consistency Matters More Than Any Single Treatment

If there is one thing I wish every client understood before they leave my bed, it is this: roughly 80 percent of your results come from what you do consistently at home, and only about 20 percent comes from what we add in clinic. The facial is important, and the right in-clinic treatment can genuinely boost what your skin is capable of, but it cannot do the work on its own. Skin responds to rhythm and repetition far more than it responds to any single appointment, however good that appointment was.

This is exactly why a membership can make such a difference. It is not about adding more to your plate. It is about making the regular rhythm easy, so the home care actually happens consistently and the in-clinic support arrives at the right intervals to keep building on it, rather than starting again from scratch each time. If you are someone who finds it easy to let your own care slip down the list, a membership simply removes that decision and keeps you on track.
